Dover Gardens Nursery School offers children a variety of experiences that promote their social, emotional, creative, physical and intellectual growth. In a nurturing environment, children are encouraged to have respect for others and to take responsibility for their own actions. The classroom setting is intimate enough to pay close attention to the children's individual needs and interests. Some activities that promote our goals are storytelling, singing, music, games, foods, field trips, holidays and special events.

Dover Gardens is a non-profit, non-discriminatory, non-political, and non-denominational organization: we make available toys that stress our non-bias and non-sexist philosophy.

A typical session at Dover Gardens includes:

  • a period of free play with craft activity, sand and water tables, blocks, puzzles, and dramatic play centre
  • tidy up, toileting and hand washing routine
  • nutritious snack (including organic fruits and vegetables) with conversation
  • engaging circle time with stories, songs and rhymes
  • a period of physical play either in the gym or, weather permitting, outdoors

2010 - 2011 Schedule:

9:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Monday through Friday.

(Optional extended program ends at 12:30pm.)

Dover Gardens currently offers a 'Family Model Programme' where Toddlers and Preschoolers enjoy the same activities, each at their own level.

Dover Gardens operates during the regular school year, opening on the first day of public school in September and closing the following June on the last day of classes. Dover Gardens also follows the public school holiday schedule. We are closed during both Christmas and March breaks and on all Statutory Holidays.

Staff:

Maria Moniz is an ECE with 10 years experience including running her own home-based daycare. She ensures that our program provides a fun, stimulating environment and works with the parents to ensure the program is meeting everyone's needs.

Marisa O'Grady is also a qualified E.C.E instructor and is a new addition to our team this year. She brings four years of experience working with
preschoolers in daycares and cooperative nursery schools as well as
additional experience from working in community social services.

Licensing

Dover Gardens is licensed by the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services. Our Provincial Licence allows us to operate two separate programmes (Toddler - 18 to 30 months and Preschool - 2 ½ to 5 years) OR, to operate with a "Mixed Age Group", often referred to as a 'Family Model'. The Family Model combines Toddlers and Preschoolers in the same programme.

Provincial Licensing allows Dover Gardens to enrol 10 children in the Toddler programme and 16 children in the Preschool programme. The Mixed Age Group programme operates with a maximum capacity of 16 children and may have no more than 20 per cent, or three children, below 2 ½ years of age in attendance.
